Youth Land Stewards Education Program (YLSEP)
The Youth Land Stewards Education Program (YLSEP) is a 7-lesson series for 4th and 5th grade students that is designed to prepare students for Outdoor School, teach students about the critical habitats and threatened and endangered species of the Willamette Valley, and encourage them to pursue careers in environmental stewardship. Students wrap up the program by participating in a career-focused field trip in the West Eugene Wetlands. This program is offered in English and Spanish.
Each lesson focuses on a different topic and highlights a different ecological career. Students will be wildlife biologists surveying and classifying the plants and animals of the West Eugene Wetlands, hydrologists learning about the Missoula Floods, and ornithologists studying the importance of wetlands for migratory birds!
This program is free for participating classrooms and runs once monthly from October through April.

“The YLSEP program was a wonderful way to bring science into my classroom. It was engaging, interesting, and relevant to my 5th graders’ interests. The program incorporated art, literacy, and games with their science content. We loved the visiting educators and going on the wetlands field trip.”
“My students really learned about these scientific concepts. The combination of classroom activities along with the outdoor field trip were exceptional!”
