Section 2: This section will walk you through the process of familiarizing yourself with your wetland. We’ll start by offering suggestions on how to set yourself up for success through journals and basic observations. We’ve also included some basic safety tips and guidelines for exploratory work. Then, each Exploration will help you see your natural space through a different lens. Through observations and surveys, you can start to familiarize yourself with the plants and wildlife, the soil, and the landforms of your wetland. Reading through each activity, you’ll find good scientific practices that will help you collect and record your ideas, observations, and data. Much of the information you gather—especially about the plant and animal species at your site—can be shared with scientific groups in the spirit of Community Science, if you choose.
