Join Us for September’s Wetland Wander With Fisheries Biologist Martyne Reeseman!

Walk Leader: Martyne Reeseman

I am a fisheries biologist and I’ve worked for ODFW for 24 years. My current job is the Upper Willamette Watershed STEP (Salmon and Trout Enhancement Program) Biologist and Assistant District Fish Biologist. I coordinate volunteer activities (high lakes backpack trout stocking, family fishing events, and much more), I spend most of my time working with partners to provide natural resources education for kids and adults and help wherever I am needed in Oregon’s fish world.

Directions:

From the intersection of Main Street and highway 126 East, travel 46.3 to the McKenzie River Ranger Station. Then continue for another 9.7 miles to the turn off (left side of road), there will be a small gravel road and gate. Pull inside the gate and park.

If you are planning to meet at the Red House, please let us know if you need a ride, or would be willing to drive yourself and other attendees. If you attended the August wander, we have already noted your participation!

About the Walk:

We will park at the gate and walk down to the spawning channel where we will see adult Spring Chinook Salmon and adult Bull Trout, hopefully spawning. During the walk Martyne will delight you all with interesting facts about the Chinook Salmon lifecycle and loads of other fun fishy information. The walk itself is about ½ mile one-way on a gravel road, if you have mobility issues, please let us know and we can make accommodations. This site is about one hour and a half from Eugene, so plan for the commute out to the site and back into town. You may want to bring extra water and snacks.
