Walk Leader:
Holly McRae joined the McKenzie River Trust in January 2017. She has a B.S. in Natural Resource Management from Colorado State University, with a minor in Wildlife Biology. She worked for the National Park Service as a ranger-naturalist in Yellowstone and the Everglades National Parks. In her free time, she enjoys canoeing and rock-hounding with her husband and daughter.
About the Walk:
Join WREN and Holly McRae of the McKenzie River Trust as we tour the Green Island conservation area. Holly will discuss the property’s history, restoration, ongoing stewardship activities, and how participants can get involved. This two-mile walking tour will occur on flat gravel roads and mowed paths, rain or shine. To learn a little bit about Green Island ahead of our walk, you can visit McKenzie River Trust’s Website.
Directions:
Green Island is located just outside Coburg off Green Island Rd. The turn onto Green Island Rd is a bit tricky. Coming from Eugene, you will pass Johnson Brothers Nursery. From here, continue straight. The road will take a sharp right and, at the beginning of the curve, continue straight toward the “Bottom Loop Rd” sign. At this point, you will be on Green Island Rd. Continue straight onto the gravel road and through the gate at the end of the road.
*WREN’s Wetland Wanders explore a different theme, conservation project, and site in the Eugene/Springfield area on the second Tuesday of the month. Please bring water, binoculars, closed-toed shoes, and dress for the weather. Walks are free and open to the public. No registration is required.
