Position Title: Environmental Education Intern

Project Location: 751 S Danebo Ave, Eugene, OR 97402

Service Dates: April 28, 2025 to October 17, 2025 (940-hour position)

Position Summary: In partnership with the Mt. Adams Institute (MAI), Willamette Resources and Educational Network (WREN) will host a Land Stewards AmeriCorps Intern to serve as an Environmental Educator. The intern will assist WREN with meeting their mission for environmental education in the community. The intern will coordinate and host educational field trips, lessons, and workshops in the West Eugene Wetlands for school-aged children, adults, local summer camps, and libraries.
The intern will represent WREN at community outreach events. The intern will have the opportunity to shadow and collaborate with government and non-profit partner organizations. The intern will assist the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) partners with monitoring and surveying sensitive local species within the Wetlands. This position works in a variety of settings including the WREN office, work from home, the West Eugene Wetlands site, and in the community. Interns are responsible for travel between project sites, whether by car or bike. Interns can expect the summer season to require working flexible hours on some evenings and weekends.

Essential Functions:

  • Teach WREN environmental education activities in K-12 classrooms, during community events and outreach, in field trip settings, working with students and adult learners.
  • Collaborate with staff to develop new educational materials including learning activities for library programs, summer programs, community centers, and K-12 classrooms.
  • Co-coordinate WREN annual events with WREN and BLM staff including American Wetlands Month events in May, a Pollinator event, and National Public Lands Day at the end of September.
  • Assist the BLM’s Forestry Technician and Botanist in surveying and monitoring sensitive species in the West Eugene Wetlands, including data collection and entry.
  • Support other WREN staff with media outreach as needed.
  • Attend and complete all MAI/AmeriCorps trainings and service requirements.
  • Complete and submit all necessary MAI/AmeriCorps paperwork and reports in a timely manner.
